Had a long walk yesterday, in the cool, grey mist. It never got above sixty-four degrees; there was a pale sun shrouded by a low, heavy blanket of wet cloud. The day began with fog and the heavy mists lingered through the constant drizzle in the air, not clearing until the mid-day. The fall of leaves has quickened, reminding me that Winter comes all too soon.
I was reminded of a painting by Polish artist Andrey Zaslavsky. I found this several years ago and was inspired to compose a brief musing over the image. When writing The Bear - Winter (M&ob 17 April '26), I envisioned this as part of the winter scenery in Bear's Great Forest.
Not quite in tune with the season, we post it today in Winter Walk.
Part 2 of The Bookbinder out later this week
